L. Michelle Reefer: CEO
Michelle has been with PWAC since July 2015 as the Chief Executive Officer. Michelle has a BA in Communication and a BA in English from Thiel College in Greenville, PA and a MA in Special Education from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. Michelle has been working in social services for 30 years in areas that include mental health, juvenile offenders, autism services, and ID services. Michelle has overseen residential and case management programs in NY State as well as in PA and is well versed in the regulations that guide our programs. Michelle loves being at the helm of a fantastic team. Michelle resides in Indiana, PA with her husband Mike and their 6 kids; Luke, Eli, Logan, Hannah, Greta, and Jeremiah. When not at work, Michelle enjoys boating on the Allegheny River and singing karaoke.
Karen Waugaman: VP Administration
Known as “Kib” since she started at PWAC decades ago (because there was another Karen in the office – followed by another Karen in the office – followed by still one more Karen in the office (and 2 Karen’s as program specialists)). Kib began as the Secretary and has lasted long enough to become the VP of Administration. She has seen many, many changes in programs over the years as well as changes in regulations, but the work has never been boring. “You may be expecting to do job A and, something happens and you are helping in a room, riding on a van, or un-boxing antifreeze.” Kib’s position covers a number of areas – human resources, public relations, safety activities and general administration. Kib is involved in a variety of activities at church including vocal and bell choirs, committees, etc. She also participates with SPARC which is a group that raises funds for PWAC. Kib enjoys travelling with a number of friends to warm climates – Key West, Bermuda, Caribbean…. Although not quite a “crazy cat lady” at home, Kib is greatly appreciated by her current 4-footed family of five cats.
Kim Smith: Fiscal Officer
Kim joined PWAC as the Fiscal Officer in March of 2015. She received her Accounting Indiana University of PA in 2005. Before joining the PWAC staff Kim worked for 9 years in the accounting department at a company in Cranberry, PA that built and serviced carwashes. When not working Kim enjoys spending time outdoors and camping with family and friends. Kim currently resides in Rural Valley with her husband, two children and two puppy companions.
Kim Kunkle: VP of Rehab Services
Kim resides in Indiana, PA where she graduated from Indiana University of PA in 1998 with a BS degree in Special Education. After working several years as an Autistic Support Teacher, Kim came to PWAC as a job coach/program manager for a year. She then accepted a position in Pittsburgh with the Veterans Leadership Program as a case manager. When the previous Rehab Coordinator retired, Kim returned to the workshop as the VP of Rehab Services. She has held this position since 2006.
Matt Ardeno: VP Production & Sales
Matt Ardeno has been is Sales and Marketing for over 10 years. Prior to coming on board at the Progressive Workshop, he was the Marketing Manager at Betterliving Patio Rooms of Pittsburgh. During his time at the Progressive Workshop as VP of Sales & Production, he has acquired contracts with companies such as Slinky, Sloan Brothers, and the Alli- Kiski Chamber of Commerce just to name a few. By obtaining such contracts The Progressive Workshop has been able to keep the clients hard at work. In addition to keeping the trainees busy at the PWAC, Matt is in charge of the Armstrong County Recycling Center. Matt’s latest project is working on developing the paper shredding division of the Workshop. The program has grown so much in recent months that Workshop is now operating 3 shredders on a weekly basis. Matt spent his childhood in Washington, PA and then attended LaRoche College graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design. He met his wife, Holly, while attending Bradford School and they were married in 2004. They now reside in West Kittanning with their two dogs.
Edward Samosky: Production Manager
Born and raised in the Rural Valley area, Ed attended Shannock Valley High school. Ed graduated from Thiel College in Greenville, PA with a BA in Communication. Ed has an extensive background in advertising, freelance writing, and marketing. Ed also held the position of Director of Environmental Services for multiple properties in Pittsburgh proper - inclusive of Heinz Field, Mellon Bank, Citizen's Bank, PNC Bank, Point Park University, and Robert Morris University. Ed also has worked as a Paraprofessional for the Bethel Park School system. Ed currently resides in Aspinwall, PA. Ed has been with PWAC since December 2015.
